Tokyo's association of private junior and senior highs (東京私立中学高等学校協会)
publishes the earliest dates its member schools may use. A school can be
later. It cannot start the ordinary round earlier than these dates.
The ordinary round
Applications open on or after 10 January each year (出願開始期日).
The selection itself starts on or after 1 February (選抜開始期日).
The association says each school chooses its own method. Besides a
two-subject exam (国語 and 算数) and a four-subject exam (those plus
理科 and 社会), schools may offer a choice of two or four subjects, an
essay, a general paper, a group exercise or a self-introduction sheet.
Time limits and marks differ. Read that school's guidebook (募集要項).
Returnee exams
The association says some schools run an exam for children returning
from overseas (帰国生入試). Its own definition, which it calls the
principle, is a stay abroad of at least one year and a return
within the last three years. A school's own rule can be different.
Read the school.
Those returnee exams may be held from 20 November, earlier than the
February round. Check dates early.
Nothing on this page predicts a result. Verify the year with the school.
Your child's dates, not the general ones
Add your child and ward. The timeline does the rest.
