What Shingaku Map never does

We read each school's own 募集要項 and each ward's own pages, and quote the Japanese beside every rule. We never promise admission, never rank schools ourselves (the university ranking we show is Times Higher Education's, quoted as published), and never use your printouts to train AI.

About us

What we checked, and when

  • 43 schools and 72 entry routes. Each rule is quoted from the official 2027 募集要項 (application guidelines).

  • 100 exam dates, and the yearly fees of 30 schools, from the same documents.

  • April 2027 daycare application dates for 22 wards and cities, each read on its own official page.

  • 180 guides, each linked to the Japanese source it was written from.

Four decisions, years apart, each with a price

Each one is yours only until its deadline. After that it is made for you. The figures are the survey's average for one child over the whole stage; the junior-high line also shows, beside it and not in the total, what parents paid juku to get in.

  1. 幼稚園Kindergarten, 3 years

Decide by: The autumn before entry, at age 2 or 3

    Public¥532,177
    Private¥1,038,087
    Difference¥505,910
  2. 小学校Elementary, 6 years

Decide by: Age 3 or 4 if you want 小学校受験 (o-juken); the exams come in the autumn of 年長 (nenchō)

    Public¥2,197,261
    Private¥10,457,700
    Difference¥8,260,439
  3. 中学校Junior high, 3 years

Decide by: February of grade 3, when juku intake for 中学受験 (chūgaku juken) starts

    Public¥1,626,133
    Private¥4,671,589
    Difference¥3,045,456

To get in: juku averages ¥2,242,147 for a child who attends all of grades 4 to 6 (an industry survey, not the ministry)

  4. 高等学校(全日制)High school, full-time, 3 years

Decide by: The end of grade 8: Tokyo's public high schools score 内申 (naishin) from grade 9 marks; applications in grade 9

    Public¥1,784,895
    Private¥3,521,361
    Difference¥1,736,466

    High schools near your home

All four private: ¥13,548,271 more than all public, per child.

Private school is not the mistake. Paying private prices for a path that was never right for your child is. The free check is eight questions, and sorts out whether 中学受験 (chūgaku juken) is for your child.

Information and coaching, never a promise of admission. Ward rules differ: check with your ward office or school.

The courses: the one place to pass the exam

英検 by grade, 算数 and 国語 by school year, 中学受験 for both. Each course is a track of lessons, practice and checks, with a mock at the end. The first lesson of every course is free.

Or the Companion Pass: every course and the companion, one price for the family.

After you decide, the app keeps you on the path

The decision is the hard part. Staying on it is a printout a week, a date a month, and a question at nine at night.

  • Scan

Snap the printout. Get what it is, what to do, by when.

  • Timeline

Your child's gates and your ward's dates, with reminders.

  • Ask

Answers from official Japanese sources, with the source under each one.
