Who may apply
Japanese nationals in grade 6 of primary school (or grade 9 for the high school); as a rule, at least 1 year abroad and no more than 3 years since return. Japanese nationals living abroad qualify if they are the right school age. Children who have never lived abroad, and students coming from abroad to study, cannot apply.
Japanese original (出願資格)
日本国籍をもつ小学6年生または中学3年生。原則として海外在留期間1年以上、帰国後3年以内。※海外在住の日本国籍の方は学齢が合っていれば出願資格は「有り」となります。※海外在留経験がない方は帰国生入試に出願することはできません。※海外からの留学生は帰国生入試に出願することはできません。

- Only one returnee round can be taken.
- English is scored from an Eiken or similar certificate (grade 2 or above = full marks); there is no English test on the day unless the child asks for the Canadian DD7 or Advanced7 class, which has its own English assessment.
