Who may apply

Finishing primary school (or the first stage of a compulsory-education school) in March 2027. The Global exam is for children with an English qualification or test result at about Eiken grade 3 or above.

2027年3月に在籍する小学校を卒業見込み、または義務教育学校前期課程を修了見込みの児童／対象は英検3級以上程度の英語資格・検定試験等の成績を有する児童です。

Also in the guide

  • Japanese and maths (100 points each) plus bonus points for the English certificate: Eiken grade 2 or above 100, pre-2 plus 90, pre-2 80, grade 3 60.
  • Cambridge English, GTEC, IELTS, TEAP, TOEFL and TOEIC results also count for the bonus.
  • Part of the 2 February afternoon round, where about 20 top scorers are offered a tuition scholarship (特別奨学生).
