令和9年度神奈川県公立高等学校の入学者の募集及び選抜実施要領(一般募集)

Kanagawa runs one public high-school selection for prefectural schools and for the city schools of Yokohama, Kawasaki and Yokosuka. For April 2027 (令和9年度) the main round is the common selection (共通選抜, kyōtsū senbatsu). A daytime school usually adds a written exam to the junior-high report (調査書, chōsasho). Families call those grades 内申 (naishin). Nothing here promises a place.

Who can apply

A full-time course (全日制) is for someone born on or before 1 April 2012 who has finished junior high by 31 March 2027, or who meets an equivalent route the guidelines list. The guidelines' birth rule is 平成24年4月1日以前に出生した者. The applicant and a parent with parental authority, or the minor's guardian, must have an address in Kanagawa: 本人及び保護者が県内に住所を有する者. The prefectural education superintendent can approve a move into the prefecture by 1 April 2027. The counter runs 28 November 2026 to 15 January 2027; the online route closes on 28 December 2026 at 16:00. A temporary move does not count.

Part-time (定時制) and correspondence (通信制) use the same birth and schooling rules. The address rule there is an address or a workplace in the prefecture. Yokohama Municipal Yokohama Sogo asks for a Kanagawa address or a Yokohama workplace. A Kawasaki municipal ordinary course asks for a Kanagawa address or a Kawasaki workplace.

You name one school, one course and one department. A few schools allow a second choice inside the same school. You cannot also be an applicant to a full-time public high school in another prefecture. Someone already enrolled at a high school cannot apply.

What to do, and by when

Applications are online. The common-selection calendar in the guidelines:

Step When
Register and pay the exam fee Mon 25 Jan 2027, 9:00, to Fri 29 Jan 2027, noon
Junior-high principal's approval Through Mon 1 Feb 2027, noon
One change of school Thu 4 Feb 2027, 0:00, to Mon 8 Feb 2027, noon; principal's approval through Tue 9 Feb, noon
Written exam Tue 16 Feb 2027
The school's own test (特色検査), if it sets one 16, 17 or 18 Feb, on that school's day. Not on 16 Feb when the school sets five academic subjects. Fri 19 Feb is possible if the board allows it
Results, on the same system Fri 26 Feb 2027, 9:00

You cannot withdraw during the application window. Later, before results, a withdrawal goes through the system with the principal's approval. The junior high's report is the record at the end of December 2026, with third-year marks through the second term. A candidate who is already 18 on 1 April 2027 does not need a report.

A missed exam can have a make-up on Mon 22 Feb 2027 if the junior high files the request on 16 or 17 February for a reason the guidelines list, such as illness, a disaster, or an accident on the way.

Yokohama and Kawasaki municipal ordinary courses, and their general-studies courses, have districts. Out-of-district places are capped at 8 percent, and at 30 percent for Yokohama Municipal Kanazawa's full-time ordinary course. Permission under the cities' Article 5 is filed from Mon 30 Nov 2026 through Fri 15 Jan 2027.

Night part-time and correspondence also have a March split round: paper applications on 4–5 March, the exam on 15 March, results on 19 March. An offer from any high school this year, public or private, blocks that March round. A second recruitment is held only if needed.

How the marks are combined

At a full-time school other than a creative school or Yokohama International, the first cut fills 90 percent of the places from the report and the exam:

S1=a×f+b×g

The report mark is second-year grades in nine subjects plus twice the third-year grades. The parent guide says that raw total is out of 135, then scaled to 100. The exam is scaled to 100. The weights are whole numbers of at least 2 that add up to 10. A school may run a practical test, a self-expression test or an interview, and add that mark. The second cut uses the exam plus the third-year "attitude toward learning" mark (A=3, B=2, C=1; the parent guide says the raw total is out of 27). Each school's weights are in the selection table. Creative schools do not set the academic exam. Full-time subjects are Japanese, social studies, mathematics, science and English, 50 minutes each, with listening in English. A school with its own test may drop to three subjects. Part-time is Japanese, mathematics and English. Correspondence is an essay.

What it costs

The parent guide gives these as the 1 May 2026 figures for Reiwa 9 entrants. Full-time exam fee 2,200 yen and enrollment fee 5,650 yen at prefectural, Yokohama, Kawasaki and Yokosuka schools. Part-time exam fee 950 yen, or 650 yen at a Yokohama municipal school; enrollment fee 2,100 yen, or 1,200 yen at a Yokohama municipal school. Correspondence charges neither. Full-time tuition is 118,800 yen a year and part-time tuition is 32,400 yen. Prefectural correspondence is 350 yen a credit, or 700 yen for a weekday class. Textbooks and trips are extra.

If the tuition support (高等学校等就学支援金) is approved, the guide says the tuition burden goes away. You have to apply. Among students with an address in Japan, the guide's list is a Japanese national; a special permanent resident (特別永住者); a permanent resident (永住者), spouse of a Japanese national (日本人の配偶者等), or spouse of a permanent resident (永住者の配偶者等); a long-term resident (定住者) recognized as intending to live here permanently; or Dependent (家族滞在) where the student finished elementary and junior high in Japan and is recognized as intending to work and settle in Japan after high school. Correspondence support is a year-end refund of 336 yen a credit, not the full 350.

What goes wrong

The principal cannot approve the application until the fee is paid. A child who needs more time because a parent moved from overseas files form 第5号様式. As of 1 February 2027, extra time is only within six years of the move or return, and a returnee must have lived abroad continuously for three years. Families not at a Kanagawa public junior high can use the interpreter session on Sat 28 Nov 2026, 14:00, at Yokohama-shi Nishi Public Hall. No booking.

What to do now

After a pass, file the pledge by the date on the offer. The guidelines say the school may cancel the offer if you do not.
