What grade is my child in Japan?学年計算
The grade follows the birth date. Children born from 2 April through 1 April of the next year are in the same class. The date stays in this browser.
2 April and 1 April are not the same grade
A child born on Apr 2, 2018 and a child born on Apr 1, 2019 are in the same grade. A child born on Apr 2, 2019 is one grade younger. The grade follows the child's age on 1 April, not the grade they had in another country.
