令和9年度文京区私立幼稚園新入園児募集のご案内(文京区、2026年10月9日更新)

Rules for Bunkyo only. Other wards differ: check with your ward office.

In Tokyo, a private kindergarten (私立幼稚園, shiritsu yōchien) is entered by applying to the kindergarten itself, on dates the kindergartens agree together and the ward publishes. Bunkyo's notice for April 2027 entry (令和9年度) went up on 9 October 2026. It names the two dates, the age bands, fifteen kindergartens with their intake, and the money the ward pays once your child has a place.

Two dates

10月15日(木曜日)から

11月1日(日曜日)から

Step When Where
Application form (願書) handed out from Thursday 15 October 2026 at the kindergarten you want
Application (入園申込) accepted from Sunday 1 November 2026 at the kindergarten you want

The ward adds that 日本女子大学附属豊明幼稚園 follows its own schedule, and that application method, visits and everything else are for each kindergarten to explain: phone the kindergarten. The ward's own office for this notice is the 幼児保育課 施設給付・私立幼稚園担当, 03-5803-1823.

The fifteen kindergartens and their intake

Numbers are the ward's table for April 2027. 若干名 means "a few", and ○ in the last column means the kindergarten runs long-hours care (長時間預かり保育). Every kindergarten offers some after-hours care; ask each one for its hours and the days it opens in a year.

聖園, 明照 and 弓町本郷 are marked by the ward as kindergartens that moved into the national 子ども・子育て支援新制度 (新制度移行園). That label decides which subsidy table applies below. The others are 未移行園.

What the ward pays once you have a place

For every Bunkyo private kindergarten:

  • Entrance-fee subsidy (入園料補助): 70,000 yen.
  • After-hours care subsidy (預かり保育): up to 12,300 yen a month, or 17,700 yen for a 満3歳児, when the household holds a child-care-need certification (保育の必要性の認定) from the ward.

For a 新制度移行園:

  • Parent-burden reduction (保護者負担軽減): 21,600 to 74,400 yen a year, by household income and number of enrolled children.

For a 未移行園:

  • Facility-use subsidy (施設等利用費, the national free-fee money for kindergartens outside the new system): up to 336,000 yen a year.
  • Parent-burden reduction: 84,000 to 136,800 yen a year, by income and number of children, within the eligible-expense rules the ward links to.

How the national cap and the after-hours subsidy work in general is in kindergarten fees and the free-fee cap; the difference between a kindergarten, a daycare and a certified centre is in kindergarten, daycare, a certified children's centre.

What this means for a foreign family

  • The ward is not the counter. You apply to the kindergarten, in person, on its form, and most Bunkyo kindergartens see families in the second half of October. The ward page is the calendar, not the queue.
  • 1 November 2026 is a Sunday. Kindergartens that take applications on the first day will be open that Sunday; ask each one whether they take applications the next week too, and whether a visit before applying is expected.
  • The subsidies arrive after entry, through the ward, on applications the kindergarten usually hands you. They do not reduce what you pay the kindergarten on day one, so budget the entrance fee in full.
  • "Few" (若干名) for 4歳児 and 5歳児 means a mid-course entry for a child arriving at four or five is possible at most of these kindergartens, but not planned for. Phone before you count on it.

What to do now

  1. Pick two or three kindergartens from the table and phone each in October for its form day, its visit day, and whether it interviews.
  2. Collect forms from 15 October 2026 at each one.
  3. Apply from 1 November 2026, at the kindergarten, with whatever it asked you to bring.
  4. After the place is confirmed, ask the kindergarten which ward subsidy forms it files for you and which you file yourself.

The page is Bunkyo's for April 2027. Verify any other ward's dates on that ward's own notice.
