Meguro ward: April 2027 daycare deadlines, and the new rule for families who live outside

Meguro ward (目黒区) prints deadlines for April 2027 daycare (令和9年4月). The guide does not say which day the April window opens. Use the deadlines below, and check the PDF guide for the start.

April 2027 deadlines

The counter closes at 17:00. Mail and online close earlier.

There is no February or March entry. Later months in the same guide have their own deadlines. For those, mail and online must arrive three open days before the counter deadline.

The ward recommends tracked mail. It says it is not responsible for mail that goes missing. A Sunday counter is listed for 15 November 2026, 10:00–16:00 with a break at midday, at the childcare desk in the main building.

Families who do not live in Meguro

From the April 2027 intake, Meguro accepts an application from outside the ward (except people who are already planning to move in) only for the ages 3–5 classes. Ages 0–2 from outside are not accepted. An application filed during fiscal 2026 is also not carried into the April 2027 adjustment.

For fiscal 2027 there is a transition rule, through the January 2028 intake: if, on the deadline, a brother or sister is at a private licensed daycare or small-scale daycare in Meguro, and is expected to stay, you may apply only to that sibling's facility.

A separate change at Yakumo daycare

Yakumo daycare (八雲保育園) is ending its trial of care from 18:15 to 20:15. That two-hour extension stops at the end of 31 March 2027.
