Taito ward: April 2027 daycare rounds, and the mail deadline is earlier

Taito ward (台東区) is taking applications for licensed daycare, the long-hours part of a certified children's centre, and community-type care, for April 2027 (令和9年4月). The class is the child's age on 1 April 2027. A child has to be at least 57 days old on that day. Care for a baby from 57 days starts on the 1st of the month after the 56th day.

The ward says the adjustment is not first-come. Applying earlier in the window does not rank you higher.

First round (一次調整)

• Counter: 1 October to 27 November 2026, weekdays 8:30–17:15, plus Sunday 8 November, same hours.
• Mail and online: 1 October to 13 November 2026, and the papers must arrive.

The window on the timeline stays open until the later counter day. Mail and online close on 13 November.

Facility changes, and a short list of missing documents (the employment certificate, the return-from-leave form, and the unlicensed-care certificate only), are accepted until 4 December 2026, online or at the counter. Siblings applying together are handled by phone or in person, not on that online change form.

A baby due on or before 3 February 2027 can be applied for before birth. The pamphlet has the details.

Second round (二次調整)

Only if a facility still has room after the first round. It is for families who did not apply the first time, or who were not offered a place, including families whose missing documents arrived after the first-round deadline.

• Counter: 30 November 2026 to 12 February 2027.
• Mail and online: 30 November 2026 to 29 January 2027, and the papers must arrive.

How to send it

Counter: 3rd window, 6th floor, Taito ward office (保育課認定・入園担当). Mail must be trackable, such as registered mail (書留). The ward is not responsible if it does not arrive. Use the checklist. Online is linked from the same page. Fax and email are not accepted.

If you will move in by 31 March 2027, you can apply for ages 0–5, with a contract that shows the address, the handover date, and the contracting party. If you have not moved in by that day, an offer is cancelled. Working in Taito without moving in is a different route: ages 1–5 only, not age 0, and not if the job is only an offer or you are still on childcare leave. That route's counter closes 26 November 2026 and its mail and online must arrive by 12 November.
