The 連絡帳 (renrakuchō, contact notebook) is a small notebook that
travels between home and school in your child's bag. The teacher writes
notes in it, and you use it to tell the school about absence, lateness,
early pickup, health and questions. Many schools now also use a parent app
or the child's tablet; the school tells you which one to use.
The rules schools expect you to follow
Read school messages every day. They come on paper (プリント), in the
連絡帳, on tablets and through parent apps.
Always report absence, lateness and leaving early:
Use the method your school chose (phone, app or notebook):
Late or leaving early: walk your child to or from the classroom:
If you cannot read a letter, tell the school:
How to write a note
Keep it short and polite. A note usually has:
The date (10
A greeting:
What and why, in one or two sentences.
A request or thanks:
Your family name (and the child's name and class if the notebook is new).
